Fire! fire! Trash Guide - Part 1
Firelands screams, "Anything that looks like fire, walks like fire, and moves like fire, get the fuck out of it." It is quite simple really, fire is bad; don't stand in it. Don't stand in it in real life and don't stand in it in World of Warcraft. And, don't ever, ever, stand in it. That said, I am quite happy to (re)start this blog being aligned with the Firelands Raid patch.
Fun place, we enter the zone. We spend about 20 minutes trying to figure raid stuff out; all the while half the raid is sitting in front of the first mob glaring and anxious to explore. Great! I pull the mob, a big giant elemental looking dude. He does some stomps, and lava spews out of the ground. We kill the mob, BAM! I am dead! Ah ah, so he puts a stacking debuff on the tank. Do a tank switch.
Then comes a group of naga looking mobs patrolling, it is really overwhelming at first, but they are really harmless. Did you know? You can CC all the mobs without pulling? This is new in patch 4.2; use it to your advantage and pull carefully. Anyways, moving along we kill some more trash. Tip: You always kill the big guy in the middle last, since he is usually the boss. And you always kill one of the healers first, and CC the other one with a longer CC timer. There are mobs to the left and right of us. Praying that there won't be any mobs that do knock backs, we clear these easily.
Someone suggested lets pull these turtles, they look harmless....yeah right. A group of them just cleaved us and we wiped. We decided to move on and get to the boss as soon as possible. However, we did decide to try the spiders, they are quite easy. You just kill the big spider, then spread out for the little spiders and kill them one by one -- they explode!
The only thing you have to be careful after the first two pulls is that, rock/fire looking elemental mobs are running across the place like crazy, so pull them (separately) whenever you see them, or you are going to be waiting a long time or they will creep up on your when you are doing another trash. Spread out for these elementals, they charge a random raid member and go back to the tank. We encounter a big dog, he breathes fire on the tank, and chews them, and then he fears! Tremor totem! Etc. Make sure you aren't near other trash mobs on this pull. Mini-dogs, they pat around in a group of 4 or 5; they put a healing debuff on the tank, easy to kill.
And finally, there are fire elementals (actually fire, not some weird version of fire) with mini mobs. Let the off-tank pull them, and tank the mini mobs. And the other tank taunt the big add; keeping them separate. The mini mobs have a buff on them that reduce damage taken. Have the melee DPS the big fire elemental, but don't kill it. Remember that tip about killing, the big guys last? Well remember it! The big guy will "light" up the mini adds one by one. Kill the ignited add, you will know which one. Trust me, if you stand near it you will die -- they do a hellfire like ability, the tank needs to be healed through it.
Thats it. Kill the stuff around, go nuts.
